ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO!
Thirty pages showing the Columbia River & Columbia River Highway as it was right after WWI. Pictures showing a time people will never see again.
A time before the
interstate
highway when fish wheels and dangerous rapids still dotted the river.
A time before the dams changed the river forever!
Because this area is my 'backyard'
, I know that only a small part of this historic road
(called a highway back then)
remain open to cars today. A bit more to foot & bike only, but most is inaccessible or gone forever.
Making the views in this book very historic!
These pictures document the time soon after the Vista House was built on Crown Point to honor those who built this amazing highway.
This road replaced the old wagon trail through the gorge.
Okay...that was the history....now here's the amazing information about this one of a kind book!
Published and sold in 1920, I'm unable to find out how many were made, but I would bet
any in this condition
can be counted on one hand, and all found in museums
(I actually considered donating this one to the Vista House museum)
It's in what might be the original wrapper (not pictured) and the 30 pages are mint perfect. The cover is also 'almost' perfect, with the exceptions of very small edge bends that I mention only for accuracy. (The cover & back are made of heavy paper)
I feel the price is fair for this historic item in this condition, but feel free to contact me with reasonable offers.
Shipping is free via USPS Priority
, but I only ship to the lower 48
(sorry)
