Anti-woman mindset: Ashwini Vaishnaw slams Telangana minister’s divorce remark

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hit out at Telangana minister Konda Surekha for her remarks on the divorce of actors Samantha Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya, calling them appalling and accused the Congress of having an anti-woman mindset.
In a tweet, Ashwini Vaishnaw questioned the “silence” of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and the party’s top leadership over the incident and said the BJP viewed the film industry as the pride of the country.
“The statements by a minister in the Telangana government slandering the character of leading film personalities are appalling and signify the anti-woman mindset of the Congress. At the same time, it shows how this party views the entertainment industry, which is the pride of India. There is no place for such discourse in our society. Silence of Mr Rahul Gandhi and the top Congress leadership shows they support such remarks,” the Union Minister tweeted on Thursday.
A massive controversy erupted on Tuesday after Konda Surekha accused BRS leader KT Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, of meddling in the personal lives of celebrities and being involved in drugs-related controversies surfaced on social media.
In the video that swiftly went viral, the minister alleged that KTR was responsible for Samantha Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya’s separation, also dragging in the latter’s father and veteran actor Nagarjuna. She later withdrew her comments and said she did not mean to hurt Samantha Prabhu and her family.
Konda Surekha’s remarks drew sharp criticism from Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Samantha Prabhu as well as top actors from the Telugu film industry. Samantha Prabhu slammed Konda Surekha over the controversy and said her divorce with Naga Chaitanya was mutual and that no political conspiracy was involved. On the other hand, Nagarjuna asked the minister not to use the lives of film stars who stay away from politics to criticise her opponents, and respect other people’s privacy.
Subsequently, Nagarjuna filed a defamation complaint against Konda Surekha over her remarks about the divorce of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Prabhu.
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Prabhu announced their separation in 2021. Naga Chaitanya recently got engaged to actor Sobhita Dhulipala in August this year.
